Confidential counselling is available to currently enrolled degree program University of Victoria students.
We offer several types of individual counselling or appointments to best serve students.
We provide same day "Urgent" appointments every day and we see students for "Check-ins" (15-20 minute triage sessions) a few times per week. We open up "No-shows" after waiting for 10 minutes and free up cancellations everyday for students who can wait. We do ask about urgency and must respond on that basis. If you think your concerns are urgent, please let us know.
Group counselling is a popular option at our centre. Many of these are for students with career related concerns, for anxiety and depression. There are also some other resources on campus that you can utilize for some concerns: UVic Health Services, Academic Advising, Co-op and Career Services, Multifaith Services, Peer Helping, and many more.
We have 9 counsellors for the large population of undergraduate and graduate students at UVic and cannot readily refer out to mental health services in Greater Victoria due to their very limited capacity.
Recently we developed an online list of counsellors and psychologists in the community who will see students on a sliding fee scale. Some of these therapists are very familiar with the university student population and the work we do at Counselling Services. Check the External Therapist Referral List.
For further information, please contact Counselling Services at: 250-721-8341.
We have moved to the Robert Carroll Residence building.
Why did we move temporarily?
The University Centre Cafeteria is having a major renovation and expansion. As this eight-month project is right below our offices, we are moving to a new location to maintain the welcoming atmosphere of Counselling Services.
We have relocated from University Centre to the ground floor of the Carroll Residence building (near the entrance to the Cadboro Commons cafeteria) during the construction period.
We're open for limited service. Please call us at 250-721-8341.
Health Services may be able to provide assistance. Their phone number is 250-721-8492.
If it is an emergency, dial 911 (Ambulance, Fire, Police) or contact Campus Security at 250-721-7599 or Health Services at 250-721-8492.
Phone help is available through Vancouver Island Crisis Line at 1-888-494-3888.
